You have to keep yourself safe from Hacking. Now everyone has account on social networking sites, mail sites, bank account etc. You are also maybe using these services. For accessing your account you have to submit your password. But in this cyber world anyone can hack the accounts easily, so we have to take care before submitting our personal data on a website.
In this article we will learn How to keep your account safe on websites.
First of all let’s understand how it is possible to steal anyone’s password.
There are three possible technique.
- Phishing.
- Key Logging.
- Password Guessing.
Now let’s see one by one how it works and how to prevent from that
PHISHING:
Phishing is nothing but stealing your password in front of your eyes! Wondered How? In this technique you give your data by yourself to the hacker.
So let’s come directly to the point. Phishing is a fake website or webpage which is created by hacker. In this you will get the same login page as you get before, but here your all details will be sending to hacker not to the actual website. For example you are on Facebook but the site will be fake. It will totally appear as facebook but it is not hosted on facebook servers.
So how will you find that a website is real or not?
Do you know it is really simple?
You just have to see the address bar which is located at the top part of your browser. It will look like this see below image.
If you are on facebook login page check the address it should appear like this http://www.facebook.com/anything or https://www.facebook.com/anything . It is simple but tricky. The tricky part is to examine the address. First of all let’s see how website URL address is formatted.
Look at the address now. After http:// you will see a URL that is www.example.com here “example” is ‘Main Domain’ and “.com” is Top Level Domain, in technical terms we also call it as TLD. “.com” “.org” “.biz” “.in” “.edu” “.net” is some examples of TLD. Now the main domain here it is facebook. So the site is real. But if facebook is not there just before TLD, then it is fake. For example http://www.facebook.anything.com here the main domain is “anything” so the server is fake and thus website is also fake.
So it is tricky but yet easy to find you just have to check the word just before the TLD.
BUT FACEBOOK USERS WAIT..
Some people also get login message, but they are already logged in. How is it possible? Facebook never ask to log in again. But if you get this login message just see address bar. Now here you will find the site is real because the word ‘facebook’ is there before TLD. But wait, if you see carefully the address will be http://www.apps.facebook.com/ yes you are right. It is an app only which says you to log in. Some people design these apps for phishing purpose only.
So when using facebook if app asks you to log in again, don’t do that. Just leave that page and again go to facebook and access your account.
Also if you get any mails providing link to log in don’t follow the link. Because most of the websites of Banks, Money related accounts etc never send such mails
So it is easy to find phishing with no cost.
KEY LOGGING:
Key logging is another way of hacking data. In this type hacker install one software in the victims PC that is called as Key Logger. Once installed, this software starts to log the key strokes in a file. And that file further mailed to the hacker. Your every key stroke is recorded in that file, even your passwords. This mainly happen in Cyber Café and Internet Café. So whenever you log in to your account through the Cyber Cafes, Just do one thing. Don’t type your login details. Just enter it through On Screen Keyboard.
To do this, follow the instructions:
- Click on Start.
- Click Run.
- In Run, type OSK and hit Enter.
- A virtual Keyboard will appear, It will look like this.
Now Enter your login Details with no fear. You can do this on Cyber Cafes. And it is hard to find that is Key logger is installed or not. So OSK is best solution.
PASSWORD GUESSING:
As the name suggests, hacker guess your passwords. Yes sometimes the guesses of hackers become right. They normally first try to check your background and life and they guess password. For example: a password kept in lover’s name. Or birth date etc. Prevention to this is just keeping your passwords strong. Don’t keep simple passwords. Always try to keep changing your password once or twice in two weeks. Combination of Alphabets and numbers will give you best password strength.
So you are now well aware of how Hackers hack your passwords. And you know it is not easy to find a hacker! So prevention is best medicine. Try to prevent yourself from hackers and Browse safely.
