Yes, many times autoplay can be responsible for the severe
virus attack on the system. This is because an autorun file is always start an
application automatically without user’s permission and can execute dangerous
virus in your PC.
The best example you can take is Pen drive’s ‘Autorun.inf’
file. You must well aware of this file. It is nothing but an autorun file which
executes software when Pen Drive is plugged. This can create many problems in
your computer. It can create many files and folders in our Pen Drive or it can
also come in the computer and can steal our private data.
But don’t worry; you can avoid these problems by Turning off
Autoplay in your computer. After turning off Autoplay, your computer will not
execute Autorun feature and this can prevent many viruses to enter in your PC.
If you have a powerful antivirus then don’t worry, because
now many antiviruses have Autorun Protection also.
So follow the below instructions and Turn off your Autorun
to be Protected from Viruses. Refer to the screen shots if have any problem. We
have provided this tutorial with images also. This works for Windows XP.
STEPS FOR TURN OFF AUTOPLAY:
- Click on ‘Start’ button.
- After that Click on ‘Run’.
- A Run command box will appear. Type ‘gpedit.msc’ (without quotes) and Click on ‘Ok’.
- Now you will see Group Policy Window. Just in left Click on ‘Administrative Templates’ which is located under Computer Configuration.
- After that in Right, double click on ‘System’.
- In that find ‘Turn off Autoplay’, and double click on that.
- Now just click on “Enable’. And also choose ‘All Drives in the Drop box given in that window.
- That’s it. Now close all windows and your autorun is now disabled.
Now whenever you plug a Pen Drive or Flash Drive, your
Computer will not perform autoplay.
